Our Farm
Supplying holiday accommodation since 2001
Home and Hound Kendenup was established in late 2021, having been purchased by a Perth couple looking for a change of lifestyle from city living.
However prior to this, the property was the well known and extremely popular 'Big Bird and Wolf Chalets' which had been operating since 2001.
Home and Hound remains largely unchanged from the previous owners, being dog friendly, and with three beautiful chalet options. Even the goats stayed on!
The only real change is Home and Hound has put in some horse training facilities and intends to be horse holiday friendly in the future.
Home and Hound is located 8km from Kendenup township, and 15km from Mt Barker in the Great Southern region of WA.
We are a 30 acre holding, running a few goats, chickens, guinea fowl and horses. There are two designated dog exercise areas, one at each end of the property. There is an ornamental lake at the bottom of the property which you can walk around.
We are surrounded by private farmland, and depending on the time of the year you will see sheep, large wheat fields and canola crops surrounding the property.
The top of the property has an amazing view of the Stirling Ranges, including a fire pit and rustic seating for guests to enjoy the view and serenity. The fire pit is only operational in suitable conditions.
More personally, the owners of Home and Hound have a passion and commitment to sustainability. The entire property is serviced by rainwater tanks and is solely reliant on rain water for the entirety of the year. There is an abundance of fruit trees and a large indoor vegetable garden that supplies fresh produce seasonally. Single use plastics are recycled and used as seedling trays to assist in the planting process. There is a large solar power supply, and wood fires are the preferred method of heating in the winter. The firewood comes from trees planted and ultimately felled across the property in a cyclic fashion. Biodegradable material is composted where possible, and fed back into the garden soils. The chickens eat food scraps and supply the property with an abundance of farm fresh eggs.
