The town is so proud of their young gamers they carved trees into giant chess pieces.
Due to the Kendenup Primary School pupils being consistent winners in regional and state chess competitions, and even runners up in the National School Chess Championships in 2012. The Town community were so proud of their achievements they came together and raised $3,000 to hire a local wood carver to sculpt giant chess pieces.
Old jarrah trees that stood at the entrance to the town's main street were due to be cut down, but it was agreed to trim them back to leave enough of the trunks to shape.
Darrel Radcliffe created a king, a rook and a queen and David Stockdale added a knight next to the Kendenup Town Hall.
